The client wanted a Balmain cottage with a contemporary feel. The house is in a heritage precinct, it has an open plan ground floor organised around a circular stair and opens to the deck and garden.

The western facade is a veil of timber louvres - to control the summer sun and to cast dappled shadows on the entry and children's bedroom.
